Castel Gandolfo is a town famous for being the summer residence of the Pope, and is located at 412 meter on sea level; it is a perfect place to enjoy the panoramic view of Rome and of the beautiful Lake of Albano.
Our Tour starts from the central square of the town, and immediately goes down on a thrilling and amusing descent that will lead us on the wild side of the lake. We’ll go along its shores on about 7 km of country path.
Then we will take secondary paved roads that with a slow descent will accompany us until the entrance of the ancient Appian Way, the “regina viarum” (“Queen of the roads”).
Here we will enjoy its paved made of ancient “basolato” stones, that will remind us far times of chariots and horses, then we’ll meet the remains of the tombs of the Orazi and Curiazi, the Villa of Emperor Massenzio, the Catacumbs of S. Callisto, until we arrive to the Terme of Caracalla and to the Coliseum, in the heart of Rome.
